Lark Books "Pretty Little" Series

So this really is my 15 minutes of (credited) fame - I'm going to be in a craft book! My lattice smocked pillows are being included in Lark Books "Pretty Little" series - Pretty Little Pillows!

Publication is Spring 2010. (so long of a wait!)

One of the editors found images of the green smocked pillows I made on my flickr page, and emailed me. I'm finishing up on the three pillows I'm submitting along with the instructions this week.

I'm super super excited, thank you internet!!!

Saucony Catalog Shoot

Maybe this is my 15 minutes of (anonymous) fame, who knows, but my apartment was used for the fall 09 Saucony Originals catalog! My photographer friend Momo Shinzawa knows the Graphic Designer at Saucony, and suggested that my place would be great location for the catalog shoot.

It was a lot fun, and interesting to be the "homeowner" - at work I'm the one barging into other people's homes and moving around their stuff for shoots. It's funny what you expect people will respond too, and what they choose for the shots. We sometimes run into this at work, where we can be a little bit reluctant to show the clients the finished images, since we may have moved things, removed things and added objects to get the look that we want, when I'm sure they love their home as-is.

Momo did such a good job, capturing the kind of seventies-esque look they wanted. It was a fun day, they also took a lot of shots that are not in the catalog, but may be used elsewhere.

The cover/legs shot is my bedroom wall, and the others are in my living room.

Dune Obsession: Book Cover

I loved the Dune movie when I was younger (Toto soundtrack! Harkonnens! Sting!), and still have a soft spot for it, even though it's pretty silly watching it now.

Anyway, I was super happy to find a hardcover copy of the book at Savers, and have been re-reading it. I just had to post the cover - the fonts/artwork/and map are super cool.

Christopher David Ryan

So while digging around on the internet recently, I sort of re-discovered Christoper David Ryan, a "a Portland, Maine-based graphic artist, daydreamer, pseudo-scientist, wanna-be astronaut and untrained intellectual. I tend to find inspiration in pretty much anything... especially music, the universe, the human condition and natural phenomena."

His work has been popping up allover the place in the blogoshpere, and the recognition is well deserved.

He has been posting daily images on his site that are thoroughly engaging and just plain awesome - "daily image posts for the sole purpose of compiling and viewing the many different sides of my work all together in one place. I will post one image (some new, some old) per day, every day of the month, every month of the year. Or something like that!"

He currently has a great Obama poster for free downloading, and many more prints and books in his store. I'm not sure if it's all the science fiction I've been reading, bit I'm coveting this print:

And this adorable book - notice the clever staging!

The Corduroy Mtn.

On a literary note - my friend Carl (of airforce joyride) has started an online literary magazine The Corduroy Mtn.

Quick fiction is where it's at, go read.

Door Sixteen & Ferm Living

Thanks to D for sending a link to Door Sixteen, Anna Dorfman-Stark's blog. From her site - "I’m a book cover designer living with my husband Evan and dogs, Bruno and Fritz, in an 1890’s Victorian rowhouse in the City of Newburgh, NY—about 60 miles north of New York City on the west bank of the Hudson River. We wound up here in Newburgh after leaving Brooklyn a few years ago, and since buying our house in March 2006 have been swimming in repairs and renovations and dirt and plaster and paint and bricks. It never ends! I love it all (mostly). This is a place for me to share my adventures in homemaking of all kinds."

She has great style, and detailed posts about her projects!

Reading about wallpaper on Door Sixteen led me to Ferm Living's Clever Spaces blog, which is a great companion to their store. I really need to get over my fear of wallpaper hanging and add some of Ferm's delightful patterns to my apt!!

Aha! - Acorns!

I need these acorn wood boxes from West Elm! Wouldn't it be great to see these at a bigger scale? Stools? Side Tables???

On an odd note, when I first saw them they totally reminded me of the acorn shaped biodegradable urns that I saw at last year's d2e green expo. A bit morbid, but exactly what I want my ashes buried in.

and just one more.....

Pocket tape measure from Nordic Needle!

Inspiration: Sign Pen Box

I've worked for architects for 8 years, and in every single office there were boxes of Sign Pens - they are fabulous to write and draw with - smooth, heavy, figural lines.

And the BOX! so cool.
