I didn't want to just get a new color, and since I don't really care for the patterns Flor offers in my price range (though I love the Girard collection,) I decided to create a custom rug!

(I laid out the design in InDesign, then simply cut six tiles on the diagonal with a knife and large metal ruler)
I'm totally jumping on the triangle bandwagon with my design, but it came out so freaking awesome! It brightens up the space and adds more color! (and is very close to white, whiter than I expected, so I have huge fears about maintaining it's cleanliness, but we'll just have to play it out)

It looks INCREDIBLE!!
ReplyDeleteWow! That looks fantastic! Also- can you tell me about your coffee table? Where did you find it? I love it.
ReplyDeleteThe rug is super rad!
ReplyDeleteFound your blog on Design Sponge. Love it!
Thanks! I keep standing in the living room and staring at it, ha ha.
ReplyDeleteRobin - I made the coffee table from an IKEA butcher block counter top that I stained, and vintage hairpin legs I got from ebay and spray painted.
Found you blog via Happy Mundane. Love it! Can't wait to read all of your posts. (And try the rug idea for myself!)
ReplyDeleteYour rug is fabulous! I love the design. Actually, I love your whole living room. :)
ReplyDeleteHey! I saw your rug on happy mundane...These colors do SO MUCH for the room! Super creative. Great job. :)
ReplyDeleteI freakin' love this! I've been eyeing Flor tiles for years now. Your inspiration is what I needed to finally take the plunge. I love that I could take a modern quilt design and translate it into a floor rug. Genius!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I found you via Craft, so now you can be happy that you were featured on another cool craft blog! :-)
Thanks Everybody! And Kim - a modern quilt design would really be awesome - send me pics if you make one!
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I saw when I spotted your rug on Ohdeedoh - a modern quilt! I'm saving this in my quilting inspiration file.
ReplyDeleteam i crazy or is the pattern you laid out in in-design different from what is shown in the photo of the actual rug in your living room?
ReplyDeleteHey Anon - yep - once I got the tiles down, the visual balance seemed off, so I made a little modification to the original concept.
ReplyDeletenice post!
ReplyDeleteAmanda, I have been looking everywhere for inspiration on making my own Flor rug. What did you use on the back of the rug to hold it all together?
ReplyDeleteHello Hailey - I just ordered extra "flor dots" from Flor when I placed the order on the website.
ReplyDeleteThe dots are stickers that hold the tiles together, you'll need more than they typically send if you're cutting the tiles into shapes.
I am writting a post on DIY rugs. I would love to include your project! I will link back to you. Hope you don't mind.
ReplyDeleteThanks radn!
ReplyDeleteI THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT WOULD LIKE TO MAKE RUGS THIS IS SO COOL.DOES ANYONE KNOW A PLACE OR A PAGE WHICH CAN HELP ME MAKE A RUG.
ReplyDeletePS. I FOUND YOUR PAGE ON HOUZZ.
Hi Anon - All the info you need is in the post -the carpet tiles are from Flor.com, and I simply cut them to make my design and installed per Flor's instructions. Thanks!
